Several journalists have been injured during police response since the protests began on Mar 19 while covering the events on site. Also, police reportely damaged journalists' equipment in some cases.

The Interior Ministry has appointed a trustee to replace the Şişli district mayor. Mayors of İstanbul and the Beylikdüzü district will be replaced through internal elections within municipal councils, where İmamoğlu's CHP holds a majority.

The court ruled for İmamoğlu’s release on terrorism charges, preventing his immediate suspension from office and replacement by a government-appointed trustee.

Mayor İmamoğlu was transferred to the courthouse amid heightened security measures in the area.

Leftist and student groups that have actively participated in the protests have been affected by the restrictions upon court orders.

The interior minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 97 people had been detained during the protests throughout yesterday. Many more were apprehended during dawn raids.

“When we went downstairs, our blood ran cold at the sight we saw. My father-in-law was lying on the floor, covered in blood. My husband and his brothers were executed where they were sitting.”

The CHP's 2023 congress is under investigation over allegations of voting fraud, which could potentially lead to the dismissal of the party's current leadership.

The president and board members of the bar association are standing trial for condemning the killing of two journalists in an airstrike in northern Syria.

"We will continue to commit the crime of opening daycare centers. I entrust these centers, built for our children, to our people," the İstanbul mayor said through his lawyers.

Over 50 protesters were taken into custody in protests across Turkey, which have largely been led by university students.

The restrictions slowing down major social media and messaging apps remained in place for 42 hours. Meanwhile, police have identified 326 accounts in connections with posts about İmamoğlu's detention, with 54 have been taken into custody.

İmamoğlu's detention "bears all the hallmarks of the pressure on a political figure considered as one of the main candidates in forthcoming presidential elections," said CoE officials.

İmamoğlu, who is seen as a strong challenger to President Erdoğan, faces the risk of losing both his chance to run for president and his position as mayor of İstanbul.

“They know thousands of us are here, but they don’t care," said one citizen.

İmamoğlu was taken into custody in connection with two separate investigations involving allegations of terrorism and corruption. The confiscation of the company concerns the latter investigation, where prosecutors accuse him of “forming a criminal organization for personal gain.”

"This is a coup against politics and democracy. Now, they will try to seize the municipalities as well. The government’s actions show that we are facing an outright coup and a system of political confiscation," says Tanrıkulu.
